  4. BAND BLAST LABEL: Little Mix claim they were told to ‘flirt’ with key industry figures to get their music played on the radio Little Mix were asked by their record label to “flirt” with influential industry figures to get their music played on the radio, the band have claimed. The British group said they were also told they shouldn’t be allowed to write their own music because they are women, in yet another #MeToo revelation. Opening up about their experiences in the US, Jade Thirlwall said: “We went to a radio event in America, full of VIPs. Someone from the label said, ‘Go and flirt with all those important men.’ “I was like, ‘F*** off. Why have I got to go in and flirt to get my song on the radio?’ The girlband are signed in the States by Columbia Records but did not specify the details of who asked them to flirt. Speaking about their time in the industry, Jade continued: “In the beginning, we were told we shouldn’t be involved in our music videos. One producer told us we shouldn’t be writing, we should just be given songs. We realised we — as women — have to work ten times as hard, which is really bloody annoying cos we do write songs.” The Sun revealed this weekend how the group have split with their mentor Simon Cowell, 59, and his Syco record label in the UK after a clash between the mogul and their management team. In a new interview with ASOS magazine released today they admitted to feeling like underdogs even at the beginning of their career because of their gender. Leigh-Anne said: “We weren’t even going to go through to live shows on X Factor, they didn’t believe a girlband could do it. So, you’re already putting women and girls down. We threw that idea out the window.” Jesy added: “When I first started out, I struggled. I never thought I would get over thinking people thought certain things about me. I still get upset when I talk about it. I’ll never get those years back. I was so miserable, I should have been enjoying my f***ing life. “This is why we feel so passionate about what we’re saying on this album. The more we talk about it, the better it will be for kids growing up. We want people to know they’re not alone.”
  5. SHOUT OUT TO MY EX: Pop superstars Little Mix have split from X Factor boss Simon Cowell after an extraordinary row just days before release of new album POP superstars Little Mix have split with mentor and X Factor boss Simon Cowell after an extraordinary row that is rocking the music industry. The hit girl group — Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards — had grown increasingly frustrated with life at his record label Syco over the past 12 months, culminating in fallouts during the making of new album LM5. The girls confronted Cowell direct in a strongly worded email, raising issues they had with his label. Then a bigger row erupted between the group’s management company Modest and Cowell — who decided to cut all ties with the company’s artists, including Little Mix and last year’s X Factor winners Rak-Su. The two bands will move to the label RCA, which is also part of the wider Sony group like Syco. A spokesman for Cowell confirmed to me: “Syco Music will no longer work with Modest Management and therefore any artists signed to that management company. “We do, of course, wish all artists affected by this decision every future success. Consequently, LM5, the forthcoming Little Mix album A&R’d and released on Syco Music, is to be serviced by RCA at the request of Syco and Simon Cowell.” Band member Jesy summed up the discontent within the band by liking an Instagram post written by @littleshadymix which said of the act: “They’re gonna leave Syco and then tell us what s*** Syco put them through.” The unprecedented fallout started over Little Mix voicing upset over their lack of recognition on new hit single Woman Like Me. They wanted an additional writing credit alongside Ed Sheeran, Jess Glynne and songwriter Steve Mac. The girls had added lyrics but were not asking for any publishing money. Cowell got the band the writing credit they wanted, but by that point his relationship with Modest — who also manage the Spice Girls, Olly Murs and Niall Horan — had broken down. Simon’s decision to cut all ties with Little Mix — the band he created on his ITV show in 2011 and the label’s most successful act — is a massive shock on face value. But he insisted that he decided to back the loyal staff members who have worked for his Syco label for a number of years and will support Little Mix by inviting them to perform on the X Factor final. Meanwhile, sources close to Little Mix say the band had clashed with Syco multiple times during the making of the new album. That said, they were still shocked by Simon’s decision to see them leave just days before the release of their highly anticipated fifth album. However, they accept it’s for the best as they’ll now have a fresh start. Since One Direction’s hiatus, Little Mix had become the jewel in Syco’s crown. But the situation also raises questions over Simon’s involvement with 1D should they ever reunite, as Modest manages the boyband.
  6. Little Mix have announced their fifth studio album titled #LM5! The album will have three different versions; the standard edition, deluxe, and super deluxe. The album will be released on Friday, November 16th.
